Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road located in the administrative region of Balikpapan, Kutai Kartanegara regency and Samarinda. Samarinda and Balikpapan are cities with high population density where Samarinda is the capital city of East Kalimantan and Balikpapan is the center of trading activities and main access to East Kalimantan.
Balikpapan–Samarinda toll road is one of the important lanes for people and goods transportation in East Kalimantan province, also 1 (one) of 7 (seven) toll roads which include in transportation system plan of East Kalimantan Province.
The 99,35 km toll road consists of two construction packages. As for the Package I is the construction of Section I (Balikpapan-Simboja) along 22,03 km and Section 5 (Balikpapan-Sepinggan) along 11,09 km. The Package II is for Section 2 along 30,98 km (Semboja-Palaran1), Section 3 along 17,30 km (Semboja-Palaran2) and also Section 4 for Palaran-Jembatan Mahkota Samarinda along 17,95 km.
The construction of Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road is expected to solve the problem of heavy traffic lanes and improve the efficiency of travel time. The construction is also expected to improve the social and economic growth and service/mobilization access for people in East Kalimantan Province.
